In August of 2019, I went on a fun day trip from Glastonbury to visit the Avebury Standing Stone Circle, this is a brief account of my experience with the Stones.
Before we enter the circle of large Standing Stones that make up the ancient ceremonial complex of Avebury, Yana guides us to ask permission and to introduce ourselves to the ancestors…
stopping like this to tune in and humble felt good, after a gentle dropping in, I am greeted by a soft yes and with excitement, I am pulled towards the first large stone.

I find a spot where my body lays into the stone
Belly meets ancient rock
my right hand reaches upwards
like laying with a lover
I receive this message:
“Turn the ancient stone
Make our world whole again
Rites made real in passion fires
turning, let the ancient world be known again”
After…. making our way along the line of
what feels like majestic sentinel sister stones
…it seems our whole group is in a trance, from the greetings, as if being reunited with old friends.
Berta has a particularly strong activation.
after much hugging of each stone, Yana leads us across the road that cuts thru Avebury
I can’t help but feel the big break in the energy flow from this road, of what other wise in accent times would have been a tremendous vortex. I don’t understand why they keep this road in place, it is so weird.
I reluctantly cross the road and leave the sister stones, and enter the field that holds part of the inner ring and the main ceremonial center.
Yana leads us toward where the “Om Phallus” stone in the center would have been, the ancient stone is now gone, and instead, a more modern stone made of Cement is placed. This center stone is made up of 4 Obelisks shaped stones, connected to a central pillar.
From a distance the energy is a bit heavy and I see a shadow pass over Bertas face as she approached the stone.
I can feel a big block in the vortex, that feels like something is placed in the energy field to hold its flow back, I am unsure if doing ceremony there is appropriate, but Yana is encouraging and we all seem willing, so I step in, the 4 of us circle around the central stone. Yana opens the circle and invites the ancestors to guide and show us the way.
As my bare feet start to connect with the flow of the energy in the land, the feeling of flow in the vortex starts to open. Yana opens the circle and invokes the support of the ancestors, then I offer a Honoponopono prayer with the “Blue Bottle Love water to the stone, and pass the bottle around the circle that each sister can receive the water energy and work with it in the way they see fit.
Then Inma, invites us to join in, the Chakra mudras, connecting Wombs, Hearts and Crowns. Together we are doing the movements around the central vortex center of the circle, at first the energy still feels a bit wobbly, but suddenly we feel a group of women approach us and circle around us. Maybe 4 or 5 women. Suddenly the energy field is so solid, that something really starts to shift. Our eyes are closed but we feel their presence anchoring us. As we finish the movements, they leave and Berta starts to open up the circle with song. We sing together, as we clasp hands and begin to circle around the stone.
Now the vortex is humming and I am so relieved, after our dance, the energy in the land feels so soft and so gently activated, that I am in awe at how simple it was. I feel the block in the vortex, is gone and I start to feel the larger “Ley” of the ceremonial land scape and am in complete awe….once we are done we thank the ancestors and depart.
We look around us and the day has completely changed, the sky is completely clear, and everything feels soft and enchanted. We wander off to connect with the other stones, take pictures, and visit the fairy trees…
It was gentleness that allowed each of us to open to the circle, and each have a very graceful and shared energetic experience in the stones. I will always remember the ease of working with these sisters in this way.
When visiting Avebury be prepared to be activated, mystified, and challenged. Ask permission to enter the stones, to work with the energies, and remember to introduce yourself. Don’t assume anything, instead softly listen and wait to be guided. And in this way, make conscious your willingness to cross the veil, into ceremonial space, leave behind your tourist mentality and invoke the sacred, in this way you can weave time, receive the medicine gifts that are meant for you, and also share your personal codes with the land through engaging your senses.
